Who Owns Buick?

Buick Encore

Buick was born in 1903 and remains one of the most iconic brands in American industry but who actually owns Buick is a common question. Let’s look back at some of the company’s heritage and put to rest a few myths about who makes Buick vehicles and where are Buicks made.

The History of Buick

As many Queens residents know, Buick is an integral part of the General Motors family with Chevrolet, GMC, and Cadillac. Below are some notable points in history for Buick:

  • The company was founded as far back as 1899 but did not start building cars until 1903 out of Flint, MI. Buick became a popular brand fast and had already built its millionth car by 1923.
  • Buick’s new owner, William C. Durant, turned Buick into the best-selling brand in the US, and in 1908 he would actually found GM, whose mission was to build vehicles that would appeal to every economic group in the US.
  • Ultimately, Buick would build such famous models as the Buick Super, Roadmaster, Special, Riviera, LeSabre, and the most popular of all, the Buick Regal.

Astoria area drivers realize that Buick and GM produce some of the most well-known vehicles on the road.

Today’s Buick

Historically, Buick has focused on producing elegant models with a high level of style and performance, incorporating a luxurious interior and providing an enjoyable driving experience. More recently, Buick has expanded into other markets around the globe, in particular China, where their line-up has become greatly respected for their quality, ride experience and performance.

Great Neck residents considering buying a Buick sometimes ask, “is Buick a luxury car”, to which the answer is a resounding yes. They will find advanced safety features, a powerful drivetrain, and state-of-the-art technology features in their new vehicle. Buick models currently available for 2020 in the US are as follows:

  • Regal Avenir
  • Regal TourX
